Baritone Mazatleco José Adán Pérez reveals the ways and nooks of operatic art

Mazatlecan Baritone José Adán Pérez offered an exciting talk about the operatic art in which he shared his experiences as a singer and performer, dispelled myths about the industry and revealed key points to become professional artists this Friday afternoon in the Cinema of the School of Arts of Cultura.

The internationally recognized Mazatlecan artist who taught a training course for porteño singers for several days, said that a professional ethic based on discipline and a vision that allows each artist to draw specific goals and strategies, are more important than having a privileged voice.

In this sense, he shared the way in which he has built his artistic career: from his beginnings at the Martinez Cabrera School of Arts and the School of Arts at the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan, to the point of singing in world-famous venues such as the Lincoln Center, in the city of New York.

With simplicity and generosity the singer stressed that professionalism is the real key to his success, and that it is based on the ability of artists to understand the environment in which they develop and then pose the stages and plans to execute and achieve the type or form of success that each one is wanting.

Adán Pérez stressed that opera is an art that is in crisis, because the public is small and it is a demanding and highly specialized discipline. In this sense, the Mazatlecan invited the young singers who were in the audience to challenge themselves, thinking of different strategies to promote their passions, knowledge and the enormous cultural richness that each opera production entails.

The conference became an intimate talk in which the audience raised their doubts and concerns about the operatic art and at that point Adán Pérez made young talents understand that opera is a genre that is born from the popular, that has powerful roots in European cultures and that in Mexico they will become "air sculptors", specialists in an ephemeral and powerful art that, in addition to singing, offers many opportunities that can be explored to perform as artists.
