Adiós a “Pito” Pérez
El pintor y escultor Roberto Pérez Rubio, uno de los más relevantes exponentes de la plástica sinaloense, murió este sábado después de un largo periodo de convalecencia en el que su salud se fue mermando poco a poco.


Apenas en 2015  en el marco de la XV edición de Norarte, el Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán le otorgó un reconocimiento por su brillante trayectoria en el mundo de las artes.

Sobre el destacado artista nacido en Los Mochis, Sinaloa,  el Director General del Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán, Raúl Rico González, destacó que  Roberto Pérez Rubio fue un  hombre que se atrevió a transgredir las barreras del tiempo al tomar el color, la luz y desdibujar las formas  para crear  nuevos elementos y convertir las formas  en algo distinto.

La obra  de “Pito” Pérez fue un factor de rompimiento con las formas y los colores tradicionales de la plástica sinaloense, dijo el funcionario.

Raúl Rico reconoció la generosidad del artista que pese a su enorme reconocimiento y prestigio dentro de la plástica nacional permitió  que sus obras se exhibieran junto  al de nuevos artistas en exposiciones locales, como sucedió en octubre de 2015 cuando sus cuadros pudieron ser admirados junto al trabajo creativo de quienes se abren paso en la plástica y las artes visuales.

Roberto Pérez Rubio fue un personaje que dio vida al Centro Histórico de Mazatlán, donde radicó durante muchos años en una antigua casona ubicada por la calle Heriberto Frías, entre Constitución y Mariano Escobedo.

Estudió arquitectura y artes plásticas en la ciudad de México y participó en los talleres libres de arte en la Universidad de Arizona.  Pionero de la plástica sinaloense, Roberto Pérez Rubio realizó su primera exposición individual en 1961 en la Hot Springs Gallery, en California.

Participó en más de 30 exposiciones colectivas y más de 20 individuales. Su obra ha sido expuesta en diversas galerías del país y del extranjero, como son: INBA, Polyforum Cultural Siqueiros, Mairmaid Gallery, Berkeley Arts Gallery y en la Cannary Row Gallery.

En Sinaloa entre otras exposiciones presentó: Pintura abstracta,  Se ruega no cerrar los ojos, de la serie Profetas en su tierra (incluido catálogo con el mismo título), en 1991; Orígenes, rito y fiesta, y Mejor hacer que decir. En 1995 expuso una retrospectiva de su obra. Fue becario del  Foeca Sinaloa en 1998. En 1986 fundó Arte Activo, la primera galería sinaloense en Mazatlán. Es considerado uno de los patriarcas de la plástica sinaloense.

Goodbye to "Pito" Pérez

Painter and sculptor Roberto Pérez Rubio, one of the most important exponents of Sinaloan fine arts, died this Saturday, after a long period of convalescence in which his health gradually diminished.

In 2015, within the framework of the XV edition of Norarte, the Instituto de culutra de Mazatlán granted him recognition for his brilliant career in the world of the arts.

About the outstanding artist born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, the General Director of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan, Raúl Rico González, stressed that Roberto Pérez Rubio was a man who dared to transgress the barriers of time by taking color, and light and by blurring the shapes created new elements and turned the shapes into something different.

In 1995, he exhibited a retrospective of his work. He was a Scholar of Foeca Sinaloa in 1998. In 1986 he founded Arte Activo, the first Sinaloan gallery in Mazatlan. He is considered one of the patriarchs of the Sinaloan fine arts.
