Antes de dar inicio al espectáculo, el maestro Gordon Campbell ofreció una cálida bienvenida a la audiencia recalcando que esta séptima edición de la Temporada Campbell estará compuesta por 8 presentaciones que buscan acercar al público a la belleza y emoción de la música, y destacó el apoyo del Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán en este proyecto.
Posteriormente Randy Noojin subió al escenario para interpretar al hombre que a través de sus canciones se convirtió en la voz de los oprimidos en Estados Unidos entre los años 30 y 40 del siglo pasado; y que marcó a numerosas generaciones por su espíritu combativo.
Así, ataviado con botas mineras, levis, camiseta, sombrero, armónica y su guitarra (la máquina que mataba fascistas) el artista armó un estimulante viaje por la infancia de Guthrie en el Sur, enumeró sus interminables trabajos, mostró sus primeros bosquejos artísticos (dibujos que realizó a lo largo de su vida) y que revelaban la mirada crítica y el carácter aguerrido, compasivo y alegre que más tarde le permitirían sensibilizarse con los oprimidos.
Noojin supo mantener la atención de su auditorio a través de imágenes, chistes, historias y canciones que dejaron en a Guthrie como un hombre ávido de experiencias que poseía una mirada que, sin discriminar, se centraba en los dolores, alegrías, esperanzas y rabia de la humanidad en un convulsionado periodo de la historia de Estados Unidos que alcanzó sus cúspides con “La Gran Depresión” y la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
Con temas como “Oklahoma Hills”, “Hard travelin”, “Bound for glory”, “Hobo´s lullaby”, “Deportees”, “Vigilante man”, “Union maid” o “This Land is your Land” arrojaron imágenes sobre el desprecio a losdesposeídos, las difíciles migraciones al oeste de los Estados Unidos, la fuerza que la solidaridad brinda en los momentos más difíciles y la compleja y rica herencia cultural que hacen de Estados Unidos “La tierra de las oportunidades”.
Consiente de la poderosa resonancia que muchos de los temas de Woody Guthrie tienen con la historia actual de los Estados Unidos, al final del espectáculo Randy Noojin dio las gracias al público y al productor Marshall Mason por traerlo al puerto; destacó el amor que siente hacia México y el desprecio que tiene por las políticas del Presidente Donald Trump que dan un mensaje de separación, algo ajeno al espíritu que Woody Guthrie plasmó en su vida y obra.
La Temporada Gordon Campbell 2018 continuará el próximo domingo 14 de enero con “The virtuoso trumpet” en Casa Haas, que ofrecerá funciones a las 12:00 y 17:00 horas.

The Gordon Campbell Season 2018 begins with a tribute to Woody Guthrie
The 2018 Gordon Campbell Season kicked off this Sunday with the impressive presentation of "Hard Travelin’ with Woody Guthrie" that allowed the audience to be amazed by the talent of the actor, singer and playwright Randy Noojin in a monologue about the life and work of one of the central figures of folk.
Before beginning the show, maestro Gordon Campbell offered a warm welcome to the audience emphasizing that this seventh edition of the Campbell Season will be composed of 8 presentations that seek to bring the audience to the beauty and emotion of music, and highlighted the support of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan in this project.
Later Randy Noojin took the stage to interpret the man who through his songs became the voice of the oppressed in the United States between the 30s and 40s of the last century; and that marked many generations with his combative spirit.
Thus, dressed in mining boots, levis, a t-shirt, hat, harmonica and his guitar (the machine that killed fascists) the artist put together an exhilarating journey through Guthrie´s childhood in the South, enumerated his interminable work, showed his first artistic sketches (drawings that he did throughout his life) and that revealed the critical look and the hardened, compassionate and cheerful character that would later allow him to sensitize himself with the oppressed.
Noojin was able to maintain the attention of his audience through images, jokes, stories and songs that gave the impression of Guthrie as a man hungry for experiences that could look, without discrimination, focused on the pains, joys, hopes and anger of humanity in a convulsive period of the history of the United States that reached its cusps with "The Great Depression" and the Second World War.
With songs like "Oklahoma Hills", "Hard Travelin", "Bound for Glory", "Hobo´s Lullaby", "Sports", "Vigilante Man", "Union Maid" or "This Land is your Land" images were viewed on the contempt for the dispossessed, the difficult migrations to the west of the United States, the strength that solidarity provides in the most difficult moments, and the complex and rich cultural heritage that make the United States "The land of opportunities".
Aware of the powerful resonance that many of Woody Guthrie´s songs have with the current history of the United States, at the end of the show Randy Noojin thanked the audience and producer Marshall Mason for bringing him to the port; He highlighted the love he feels for Mexico and the contempt he has for the policies of President Donald Trump that give a message of separation, something alien to the spirit that Woody Guthrie embodied in his life and work.
The Gordon Campbell 2018 Season will continue next Sunday, January 14, with "The Virtuoso Trumpet" at Casa Haas, which will offer performances at 12 noon and 5 pm.
