Alumna de la Escuela de Ballet Clásico del Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán y de la academia Zoila Danza que dirige  la maestra Zoila Fernández,  su triunfo tiene doble mérito pues durante años la EMBC no compitió en esta categoría y porque Alejandra  tiene poco tiempo estudiando ballet.

“Comencé a estudiar ballet desde los 10 años, pero antes practiqué flamenco. El cambio fue muy brusco pues era dejar de pegarle con fuerza al piso y hacer movimientos más delicados, por eso decidí estudiar a la par gimnasia rítmica para adaptarme más rápido”.

No es la primera vez que la disciplinada bailarina porteña visita la isla caribeña. En el 2016 asistió como alumna invitada a clases magistrales en la Escuela Nacional de Ballet Fernando Alonso y al percatarse del gran nivel en las competencias y en las  aulas, decidió que trabajaría duro para día regresar y competir al tú por tú con las demás bailarinas.

A inicios del presente año fue una de las seleccionadas para competir en el Encuentro Internacional de Academias 2017 y comenzó a ensayar de una a dos horas diarias una pieza montada por la maestra Zoila Fernández a partir de una canción de la película “Amelie”.

El día de la competencia tuvo que esperar impaciente tres horas para salir al escenario. Todo iba bien pero en el paso final trastabilló y  pensó que ahí quedaría su sueño de avanzar en la competencia.

“Cuando terminé de bailar di un paso en falso. Estaba muy enojada. Recuerdo que regresé al departamento en el que me hospedada y me quedé dormida por el cansancio y el enojo. Entonces mi mamá me despertó. Yo no entendía pero escuché clarito que me dijo ‘pasaste a la segunda ronda’ y  me levanté con una sensación muy bonita, pero la verdad me dio mucho miedo la posibilidad de quedar  eliminada”.

Al día siguiente quedaban 27 de las 50 niñas de su categoría. Alejandra ejecutó la misma variación y un día después  se llevó la enorme sorpresa de haber sido condecorada con una mención de honor  por  su destacada participación en la competencia.

La emoción que compartió con sus padres fue indescriptible, pero las buenas noticias no cesaron: Alejandra Velázquez Carranza también fue invitada para estudiar un año completo en la Escuela Nacional de Ballet Fernando Alonso, oportunidad que confiesa planea aceptar dentro de un par de años cuando esté por iniciar la preparatoria.

13 year old Mazatlecan ballerina receives honorable mention in Cuba

Among 50 talented dancers from countries such as Ecuador, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and the United States, Alejandra Velázquez Carranza from Mazatlan, 13 years old, won honorable mention in the children’s category of the International Meeting of Academies 2017, held in Havana, Cuba.

Student of the School of Classical Ballet of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan and Zoila Dance Academy led by maestro Zoila Fernández, her triumph has double merit because for years the EMBC has not competed in this category and because Alejandra has only a short time studying ballet.

"I began to study ballet at age 10, but soon after I practiced flamenco. The change was very sudden I had to stop hitting the hard floor and use the most delicate movements, so I decided to study gymnastics at the same time to adapt faster".

It’s not the first time that the disciplined dancer from Mazatlan has visited the Caribbean island. In 2016, she attended as an invited student to master classes at the Escuela Nacional de Ballet Fernando Alonso and realizing a higher level in the classrooms, she decided that she would work hard to someday return and compete at the same level as the other dancers.

Earlier this year she was one of those selected to compete in the International Meeting of Academies 2017 and she began to rehearse a piece assembled by maestra Zoila Fernández from a song from the movie "Amelie" one or two hours a day.

The day of the contest, she had to be patient and wait three hours before going on stage. Everything was going well but she stumbled in the final step, and thought that she had lost her chance of advancing in the competition.

"When I finished dancing I took a false step. I was very angry. I remember that I returned to the room I was staying in and I fell asleep from weariness and anger. Then my mom woke me up. I didn´t understand but I clearly heard that she told me ´you passed to the second round´ and I woke up with a very nice feeling, but the truth gave me great fear of the possibility of being eliminated".

The next day there were 27 of the 50 girls in her category. Alejandra executed the same variation and a day later received the huge surprise of having been awarded an honorable mention for her outstanding participation in the competition.

The emotion shared with her parents was indescribable, but the good news did not cease: Alejandra Velázquez Carranza was also invited to study a full year at the Escuela Nacional de Ballet Fernando Alonso, an opportunity she confesses that she plans to accept in a couple of years when she is about to begin high school.
