Basado en la Novela, “El Premio de la Sal” (The Price of Salt), de la escritora estadounidense Patricia Highsmith, el director realiza en “Carol” un extraordinario relato sobre dos mujeres viviendo su sexualidad de diferentes maneras, una apenas descubriéndola, y la otra, atrapada en una relación matrimonial infeliz que le impide vivir libremente su verdadera preferencia sexual.

En el Nueva York de los años cincuenta, Therese es una joven de pocos recursos que trabaja como dependienta en unos lujosos almacenes de la ciudad, que sueña con una vida mejor. Ella conoce a Carol, una mujer elegante y sofisticada que lleva una vida matrimonial infeliz. Entre ambas mujeres comienza una relación que va haciéndose cada vez más intensa y profunda.

Por su extraordinaria calidad artística, este filme formó parte de la Competencia Oficial por la Palma de Oro en Cannes, 2015 consiguiendo el Premio a Mejor Actriz para Rooney Mara.

Todd Haynes es un talentoso y exitoso cineasta cuya carrera ha estado marcada por el escándalo que han provocado sus trabajos desde sus primeros cortometrajes, “Asesinos: Un filme sobre Rimbaud” (85) y “Superestrella: la historia de Karen Carpenter” (87).

Su primer largo metraje, “Veneno” (Poison. 1991), fue financiado con fondos públicos, adaptando textos de temática homosexual de Jean Genet; un trabajo condenado por la Asociación Americana de la familia, pero que el hizo ganar premios en Sundance, mientras que en la Berlinale lo convertiría en una de las promesas del New Queer Cinema. Otros de sus filmes son “Safe” (95) y “Lejos del cielo” (02).

This Saturday at the Cinema,  "Carol" by Todd Haynes

Within the cycle "Lessons of Tolerance", films that talk about racial, social and sexual diversity, this Saturday the film "Carol" by the renowned American filmmaker Todd Haynes will be shown at "El Cinematógrafo" in the Art School.

The show starts at 7 pm and admission is free for all audiences (Adults), entrance on of Plazuela Machado. Limited availability.

Based on the novel, "The Price of Salt", by the American writer Patricia Highsmith, the director performs in "Carol" an extraordinary story about two women living their sexuality in different ways, one just discovering it, and the other, trapped in an unhappy marriage relationship that prevents her from living her true sexual preference freely.

In the New York of the fifties, There is a young woman of few resources who works as a saleswoman in some luxurious stores in the city, who dreams of a better life. She meets Carol, an elegant and sophisticated woman who leads an unhappy married life. A relationship that is becoming increasingly intense and profound begins between the two women.

For its extraordinary artistic quality, this film was part of the Official Competition for the Palme d´Or at Cannes, 2015 getting the Best Actress Award for Rooney Mara.
