Entre el jueves 8 y el viernes 16 de marzo se realizará la quinta edición del Mazatlán Jazz Fest Chilo que llenará el Centro Histórico de Mazatlán con conciertos, conferencias y clínicas especiales, sesiones de improvisación y películas en torno a este fecundo género.

El músico Julio Recinos vuelve a trabajar junto al Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán y Proyecto Centro Histórico para ofrecer una espectacular cartelera de eventos a celebrarse en espacios como el Teatro Ángela Peralta, Casa Haas, el Cinematógrafo, Plazuela Machado, Héctor´s Bistro Roof Garden, Restaurante Pedro y Lola y Casa García para avivar la pasión de los amantes del jazz.

Con la presentación de grupos locales así como de México, Brasil, Francia y Argentina el Mazatlán Jazz Fest Chilo mantiene su apuesta por fusionar talentos nacionales e internacionales para traer al puerto a los mejores expositores del género sincopado.

Este año Pablo Prieto Quartet (México), Kingsmith (Jalisco), Karen Souza (Argentina), Sinaloa Jazz Ensamble, Bleu Sarape (Francia | México), Manuel Ehuan Quinteto, Trío Afora (Brasil) y Jazz de la Sierra (Sinaloa),  serán los encargados de calentar las noches mazatlecas con lo enfoques clásicos y contemporáneos del jazz.

Junto a ellos los chef´s del colectivo Cosinar volverán a sorprender al puerto con sus creaciones culinarias en una soberbia cena en la Plazuela Machado a beneficio de Proyecto Centro Histórico; Pablo Prieto dará una charla en torno al legendario Dave Brubeck y se proyectará la película “Born to be blue”, de Robert Bodreau y durante la ceremonia de inauguración, el jueves 8 de marzo a las 20:00 horas en el Teatro Ángela Peralta,  el jazzista Gilberto “Flaco” Valenzuela recibirá el reconocimiento “Chilo Morán” por su trayectoria en la escena del jazz mazatleco. 

El festival cuenta con apoyo del Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán,  del Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura, el Consejo Ciudadano para el Desarrollo Cultural Municipal  y empresas locales. Los boletos para los eventos en el Teatro Ángela Peralta, cuestan $100.00, $150.00 y $200.00. Para la cena $1500.00.  Carnet para todos los eventos $1,200.00.   Las clínicas en Casa Haas no requieren inscripción previa y son gratuitas como las presentaciones en la Machado.  Los boletos para la cena de Cosinar están disponibles con Annie Medina al 6699948252 y con Manry Fuentevilla al 6699949409.

Between Thursday, the 8th and Friday, the 16th of March, the fifth edition of the Mazatlan Jazz Fest Chilo will take place filling the Centro Historico of Mazatlán with concerts, lectures and special clinics, improvisational sessions and films about this fertile genre.

This was announced on Saturday at a press conference by Julio Recinos, organizer of Jazz Fest; Manri Fuentevilla, Manager of Proyecto Centro Historico and Raúl Rico González, General Director of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán.

The stages will be the Angela Peralta Theater, Casa Haas, the Cinema of the Art School, Plazuela Machado, Hector´s Bistro Roof Garden, Pedro y Lola Restaurant, and Casa Garcia.

In the press conference Raúl Rico stressed that in addition to promoting this genre in the port, the Mazatlan Jazz Fest Chilo honors the memory of the great Mazatlecan jazz player Chilo Morán, through the recognition that bears his name and that in this fifth edition will be awarded to the great musician Gilberto "El Flaco" Valenzuela for his remarkable contributions to the Mazatlan jazz scene.

With this recognition, the Jazz Festival begins on Thursday, March 8 at 8:00 pm at the Angela Peralta Theater, which will shine with the performance of the Pablo Prieto Quartet and its show "Impressions of Dave Brubeck", an exuberant musical proposal that transits through standard jazz to pay homage to this international jazz figure.

For her part, Manri Fuentevilla expressed her excitement at the proximity of the fifth edition of the Mazatlan Jazz Fest, a project "that is not easy". This year we have been able to keep it up thanks to the support of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan, the Sinaloan Instituto de Cultura, the Citizen Council for Cultural Development of the Municipality and some supporting companies.

He stressed that the festival will be divided into two weeks and only the opening concert at the Angela Peralta Theater and the dinner to benefit Proyecto Centro Historico on Wednesday, March 14 at Plazuela Machado, at 9:00 p.m have a cost. the rest of the events will be free, as are the presentations at Plazuela Machado.

Julio Recinos announced that on March 8 at 12:00 noon. at Casa Haas, the festival begins with a talk by Pablo Prieto on Dave Brubeck, one of the most important musicians of jazz and contemporary music, and then at 8:00 p.m., his group Pablo Prieto Quartet, will entertain the initial show of the festival at the Angela Peralta Theater.

On Friday, March 19, at Hector´s Bistro Roof Garden the public will enjoy the presentation of Kingsmith from Jalisco with its offer of blues and jazz funk. This group offers a sound based on the use of the Hammond organ as a main piece accompanied by guitar, bass and drums. The sounds of the Jazz group of the Sierra will improve the night.

The following day, at six o´clock in the afternoon, the Cinema of the School of Arts of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan, will play the film "Born to be Blue" by Robert Bodreau, which deals with the story of Chet Baker, one of the first white jazz players to be recognized by the black community.

Argentinean Jazz player Karen Souza, internationally recognized for making a Jazz crossover with songs from different musical genres ranging from Bob Marley´s Reggae to Radiohead Rock, will perform on Wednesday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m. at Plazuela Machado during the Dinner to benefit Proyecto Centro Historico. Luis Osuna, Diego Becerra and Marino Naganda, from project Cosinar will be responsible for pampering the palate of the diners. The cost of the tickets is $1,200 pesos per person with the right to dinner, drinks and the show.

On Thursday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. Plazuela Machado will receive the proposal of Sinaloa Jazz Ensemble composed of musicians from Los Mochis, Mazatlán and Culiacán.

The musical evening will continue with Marc Fabbricatore, recognized as one of the most interesting pianists of the new French Jazz, with his project Bleu Sarape in which "two French and two Mexicans do very crazy but very good things". The activities of this day end with a jazz jam at the Pedro y Lola restaurant, with musicians from both groups.

On Friday, March 16, at noon at Casa Haas, Marc Fabbricatore will offer a free clinic to the general public, pianists and students of the School of Music of Cultura.

That same day the local group Manuel Ehuan Quinteto will perform for Jazz lovers in the Plazuela Machado, a stage that will be lit with the performance of the Brazilian group Trío Afora, which at 8:00 p.m. will please the audience with Bossa-nova music , contemporary Jazz, Samba and traditional Jazz.

The activities of the Mazatlan Jazz Fest Chilo end on Friday night with a Jazz jam at restaurant Casa García. From 10 pm and for five hours, the stage will come alive with the intervention of those who wish to surprise with their jazz improvisations in a shared experience with musicians who are beginning their career and recognized figures of this exciting genre.

Recinos stressed that this festival is important to motivate jazz fans and young musicians not only from the port but also from neighboring states. He recalled how a couple of years ago Mazatlan received a bus of music students from Durango who came to enjoy the Jazz Fest activities.

Tickets for the inauguration of the Mazatlan Jazz Fest Chilo 2018, on Thursday, March 8 at 8:00 pm with the presentation of the Pablo Prieto Quartet, will cost $300, $200 and $100 pesos, and are available at the Theater box office Angela Peralta.
