Con más de un centenar de personas observándolo, el guitarrista ejecutó con destreza los agridulces sonidos y emociones que su natal Cuba despertó en el compositor Leo Brouwer, para crear “Paisaje cubano con campanas”, la primera pieza de la noche.

De la isla caribeña, el programa giró hacia México, y el guitarrista cautivó a la audiencia con los abundantes y pausados pasajes románticos que el zacatecano Manuel María Ponce compuso en 1927, para después mandar el concierto a un pequeño intermedio.

Al regresar, Birrueta fue fuertemente aplaudido tras la ejecución de los movimientos Lento y Alegro que forman “Toquines”, una pieza del compositor chihuahuense Armando Luna que se caracteriza por una compleja estructura que incluye ritmos eclécticos de naturaleza barroca, neoclásica y moderna.

Antes de interpretar su siguiente pieza, “Preludio No. 4”, de Heitor Villa-Lobos, Jorge Birrueta comentó que ésta hace referencia a la música folclórica de algunas regiones de argentina y en la última parte de la travesía musical de este concierto el músico ejecutó la “Sonata Op. 47” de Alberto Ginastera, llevándose el cariño del público en una ronda de sonoros aplausos.

Jorge Birrueta shines as soloist at Casa Haas

On Saturday night, guitarist Jorge Birrueta appeared as a soloist in his Latin American Landscape with Guitar concert in which he played the music of some of the most important musicians in Latin America.

With more than a hundred people in the audience, the guitarist skillfully executed the bittersweet sounds and emotions that his native Cuba awoke in composer Leo Brouwer, to create "Cuban Landscape with Bells", the first piece of the night.

From the Caribbean islands, the program turned to Mexico, and the guitarist captivated the audience with the abundant and slow romantic passages that Manuel Manuel Ponce composed in 1927, and then sent the concert on a small intermission.

Upon his return, Birrueta was loudly applauded following the execution of the Lento and Alegro movements that form "Toquines", a piece by Chicano composer Armando Luna that is characterized by a complex structure that includes eclectic rhythms of a baroque, neoclassical and modern nature.

Before interpreting his next piece, "Prelude No. 4", by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Jorge Birrueta commented that it refers to the folk music of some regions of Argentina and in the last part of the musical journey of this concert, the musician performed Alberto Ginastera´s "Sonata Op. 47", winning the affection of the audience in a round of loud applause.
