El Día de Muertos, una de las celebraciones más emblemáticas y conocidas de México, cada vez está más cerca y con este motivo Cultura de Mazatlán registra un notorio avance en la organización de la fiesta de los vivos para honrar a los muertos.
En la creación de esculturas y obras para ambientar la Plazuela Machado participa la planta docente de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas, y a través de orientación alumnos del taller y el nivel técnico forman parte del proceso.
Los maestros Sergio Flores y Cecilia García junto a los alumnos, se encargan de la tradicional calavera que atraerá las miradas en el quiosco de la Plazuela Machado; mientras que los maestros Mónica Rice, Lucila Santiago, Miguel Flores, Beatriz Fuentevilla, Juan Carlos Valdivia y Cy Rendón, crean los altares dedicados a Pedro Infante y la ambientación de la plazuela.
En el proceso de creación se puede apreciar cómo después de trazar la calavera, se dibuja para marcar el volumen deseado y con materiales como madera y ductos de electricidad se crea la estructura. La calavera maneja las características simbólicas de la celebración, fondo blanco, modelado con papel maché y los colores que le dan personalidad propia.
Participar en esta celebración es importante para la Escuela de Artes Plásticas que coordina Mónica Rice, pues maestros y alumnos demuestran las habilidades creativas y sus obras reflejan el nivel técnico de quienes forman parte de ella.

The School of Fine Arts prepares the ambience for Dia de Muertos
A large skull and distinctive works for the altars in honor of Pedro Infante, are being prepared by teachers and students of the School of Fine Arts of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan to set the ambience of Plazuela Machado, on November 1st during the celebration of Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Dia de Muertos, one of the most emblematic and well-known celebrations in Mexico, is getting closer, and for this reason Cultura Mazatlán is noting a great advance in the organization of the fiesta of the living to honor the dead.
In the creation of sculptures and pieces to decorate Plaza Machado, the teaching staff of the School of Fine Arts is involved; and workshop and technical level students are part of the process as well.
Maestros Sergio Flores and Cecilia García with the students are in charge of the traditional skull that will attract the eyes in the kiosk of Plazuela Machado; while teachers Monica Rice, Lucila Santiago, Miguel Flores, Beatriz Fuentevilla, Juan Carlos Valdivia and Cy Rendón create the altars dedicated to Pedro Infante and the setting of the square.
In the process of creation, you can appreciate how after tracing the skull, marking the desired volume and with materials such as wood and electricity ducts the structure is created. The skull handles the symbolic characteristics of the celebration, white background, modeled with paper mache and colors that give it its own personality.
Participating in this celebration is important for the School of Fine Arts, coordinated by Monica Rice, as teachers and students demonstrate creative skills and their works reflect the technical level of those who are part of it.
