The opera "Carmen" fills the Ingenio Theater in Los Mochis

The operatic project created in Mazatlan and promoted by the Municipal Instituto de Cultura, began to take root in the state with the presentation of the opera "Carmen" by Georges Bizet, in the city of Los Mochis.

This opera of great encouragement, produced by Raúl Rico, had the honor of closing the Sinaloa Cultural Festival in Los Mochis, shaking the cultural life of northern Sinaloa and marked f the history of the Ingenio theater forever by bringing together 1,200 spectators in the hall , while more than 500 people who had lined up at dusk, could not enter due to the insufficiency of seats.

The monumental work, a symbol of the restoration of the Ángela Peralta Theater, of passion and death, captivated the audience of the sugarcane city to come alive with 160 artists on stage, plus the technical staff of the Ángela Peralta Theater of Mazatlán who traveled to take charge of the assembly.

Two trailers with the scenery of Jorge González Neri, costumes and props created in the sewing workshop of Cultura Mazatlan by Elisa Espinosa and her technical team, occupied part of the parking lot during the unloading and assembly maneuvers. In front of the technical staff, Antonio Serratos was also responsible for creating the setting of the different scenes through artistic lighting.

Ragnar Conde, stage director, recognized on the eve of the event, the complexity of assembling "Carmen" in just two days and on a larger stage for which this show was originally conceived.

Excited about this experience which has been "so rewarding", Conde applauded that in Sinaloa, with less resources, more opera is being produced, even more than in the Bellas Artes of Mexico City, thanks to the discipline and vision of Enrique Patrón De Rueda and Raúl Rico.

Producer Raúl Rico González highlighted the support and inter-institutional work that made this presentation possible.

"ISIC financed part of the production, gave us total freedom to handle the cast and invited us to present this opera here in Los Mochis."

The show held at the Ingenio Theater on Tuesday at eight o´clock at night exceeded the expectations of the organizers in the face of the broad response of an audience eager to enjoy high-level shows.

Artistic director Enrique Patrón De Rueda thanked for the institutional support so that the function could be offered without cost to the public, without a doubt a great gift when in other cities of the world, the public has to pay up to three hundred dollars for a function of "Carmen".

For the northern audience, the surprise was that the majority of the cast were artists from Sinaloa who performed magic on the stage by moving the spectators to life in the Plaza de la España in 1820, the atmosphere in the tavern, the merrymaking of the workers of a cigar factory, the night on the mountain, the winding road of the smugglers and death.

Soprano Lydia Rendón gave passion, soul, heart and life to Carmen, the protagonist of the story, a woman who faced the social rules of her time (nineteenth century), and decided who to love, to finally face a higher destiny.

The singer and actress who made her first presentation as a protagonist in the production of Cultura, shared the stage with tenor José Ortega, Don José, a man "spellbound" by the sensuality of Carmen, the gypsy of wandering life that finally led him to the abyss , because in order to achieve his love, he not only abandoned his mother, and the moral values with which he was educated, but, trapped by circumstances, deserted the Army to become a smuggler.

The monumental staging that lasted three hours, twenty minutes, captivated the audience that could not avoid the thunderous applause for the quality of the production and the virtuosity of the cast integrated by the singers, soloists, the Guillermo Sarabia Choir, the Choir Workshop of the Opera, the Children´s Choir of cultura, musicians of the OSSLA and dancers of the Brújula Flamenco Dinámico under the direction of Enrique Patrón De Rueda.

On that brilliant night was the performance of the Sonoran soprano Rosa Dávila in the role of the demure "Micaela", without a doubt a great debut for the singer; Mariano Fernández in the role of Escamillo; Jéssika Arévalo as Frasquita, Mariana Sofía García in the role of Mercedes; José Manuel González (Dancaire); Oziel Herrera (Zúñiga), José Lora (Morales) and Ricardo Calderón (El Remendado), made it possible for "Carmen" to conquer northern Sinaloa and demonstrate why it remains the most accessible and highest-grossing opera of all time.
