En 1943, Visconti hace su brillante debut cinematográfico introduciendo una nueva visión del cine, y basándose en la novela negra “El cartero siempre llama dos veces”, James M. Cain realiza “Obsesión, un relato extraordinario que se convierte en un filme pionero del neorrealismo Italiano; un trabajo en el que se nota el compromiso del cineasta con la lucha antifascista y la resistencia italiana impregnando de un clima de opresión y un ámbito sórdido.
Giovana es una hermosa mujer casada con Bragana, el viejo dueño de un restaurant. Su vida miserable cambia cuando un joven vagabundo llega al lugar y consigue quedarse como trabajador. Luego de convertirse en amante de ella, la pasión los llevará a planear el asesinato del viejo propietario.
Uno de los cineastas italianos de mayor reconocimiento a nivel internacional, Luchino Visconti es también uno de los más grandes directores de ópera que llevó al teatro de su ciudad, la Scala de Milán, a un nuevo esplendor, además de impulsar la carrera de María callas.
Entre sus filmes más emblemáticos destacan: “Bellisima” (51), “La tierra tiembla” (48), “Livia” (54), “El gatopardo” (63), Premio Palma de Oro a Mejor Película en Cannes; “Sandra” (65), premio León de Oro a Mejor Película en Venecia.
Su último trabajo fue “El inocente” (1976), dejando a su muerte una de las carreras más brillantes del cine italiano.
