El maestro Edén Martínez, coordinador del taller de cine, dio la bienvenida a esta joven cineasta que ofreció un análisis detallado de las etapas previas a una filmación que exigen perseverancia, ingenio, creatividad, disposición para el trabajo en equipo y una incesante hambre de conocimiento para explorar cualquier instancia que permita a los cineastas emergentes realizar sus proyectos cuidando costos y alentando en todo momento a sus colaboradores.

Olivas, que ha tenido oportunidad de asistir a numerosos talleres cinematográficos con personalidades del séptimo arte como Guillermo Arriaga o Diego Luna, compartió que el cine sólo existe en el proceso de hacer: las ideas, intuiciones, intenciones y estudios jamás llegarán a un destino si el cineasta no se arriesga y se lanza de lleno a realizar las pequeñas, grandes e impredecibles labores que el séptimo arte exige.

"La idea de hacer cine está muy centralizada. Es decir, se piensa en Hollywood como la única forma de hacer cine, que es costosísimo; o se piensa que en México sólo se puede hacer cine si uno se va a la Ciudad de México y el resultado serán películas con una misma factura, que narran historias de la capital y siguen los mismos principios. El cine puede hacerse de muchas formas", señaló Zulema Olivas.

Los alumnos del ICO mantuvieron un diálogo constante con la cineasta sobre sus propios hallazgos, limitaciones, dudas e inquietudes sobre el quehacer cinematográfico.

El taller de  "Cine y literatura en tu Escuela", coordinado por Fernando Alarriba, ya está en su tercer año en la institución javeriana y después de llevar cursos sobre historia, análisis y apreciación en ambas disciplinas artísticas,  este año los estudiantes están enfocados en procesos de producción de textos literarios, guiones cinematográficos y carpetas de producción.

Cultura presents an afternoon of cinema in ICO

At the Raúl Rico Mendiola auditorium of the Instituto Cultural del Occidente, the Culiacan-born filmmaker Zulema Olivas gave the conference "Planning your debut: the pre-production process" as part of the "Cinema and Literature at your school" program that the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlan offers high school students of ICO.

Maestro Edén Martínez, coordinator of the film workshop, welcomed this young filmmaker who offered a detailed analysis of the stages prior to filming that require perseverance, ingenuity, creativity, willingness to work in teams and an incessant hunger for knowledge to explore any instance that allows emerging filmmakers to carry out their projects taking care of costs and encouraging their collaborators at all times.

Olivas, who has had the opportunity to attend numerous film workshops with personalities of the seventh art such as Guillermo Arriaga or Diego Luna, shared that cinema only exists in the process of making: ideas, intuitions, intentions and studies will never reach a destination if the filmmaker does not take risks and launches himself into the small, large and unpredictable tasks that the seventh art demands.

"The idea of making movies is very centralized, that is to say, you think of Hollywood as the only way to make movies, which is very expensive, or you think that in Mexico you can only make movies if you go to Mexico City and the result will be films with the same invoice, which tell stories of the capital and follow the same principles.The cinema can be done in many ways, "said Zulema Olivas.

The ICO students maintained a constant dialogue with the filmmaker about their own findings, limitations, doubts and concerns about filmmaking.

The "Film and Literature in your School" workshop, coordinated by Fernando Alarriba, is already in its third year at the Javeriana institution and after taking courses on history, analysis and appreciation in both artistic disciplines, this year the students are focused on production processes of literary texts, film scripts and production folders.
