Del compositor italiano Giacomo Puccini esta historia trágica está llena de profundos valores religiosos. Interpretada por Dhyana Arom, joven promesa de la ópera en México y la notable cantante  María Luisa Tamez, en el papel de Zia Principessa.

Bajo la dirección artística del maestro Enrique Patrón De Rueda y la dirección de escena de Oswaldo Martín del Campo, la Camerata Mazatlán y el Coro Guillermo Sarabia participan en esta historia donde la aristócrata Angélica, tras tener un hijo fuera del matrimonio, deshonra a su familia y es enviada al convento como castigo por su pecado.  Siete años después,  se entera que su hijo ha muerto y agobiada por el dolor, decide quitarse la vida pero  ocurre algo inesperado.

Co producción de Amigos de la Ópera,  ISIC, FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes) y el Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán, Suor Angelica volverá a estremecer al Teatro Ángela Peralta después de su última presentación en el 2007, que tuvo a la famosa cantante chilena María Cristina Gallardo Domas en el rol principal. Esta vez, Suor Angelica será interpretada por la soprano mexicana Dhyana Arom, joven promesa de la ópera en México. 

Después de participar en el VIII Concurso Internacional de Canto Sinaloa en el 2016, la soprano vuelve a Sinaloa para interpretar esta gran obra del compositor italiano Giacomo Puccini.

Para componer esta ópera Puccini visitó a su hermana Iginia, madre superiora en el Convento de Vicopelago. Al terminar su obra, Puccini la tocó completa ante las religiosas que la escucharon al borde de las lágrimas.  El compositor siempre insistió que era la mejor parte de su Trittico –compuesto además por Il tabarro y Gianni Schicchi- lleno de símbolos relacionados con la Divina Comedia.  Suor Angelica correspondería al purgatorio.

La historia transcurre en un convento en  Siena, Italia a mediados del siglo XVI.  Por siete años,  la hermana Angélica espera en vano noticias sobre su familia y su hijo. Un día la abadesa le anuncia que su tía, Zia Principessa ha venido a visitarla. Durante la visita Angélica pregunta por su  hijo al que no ve desde que nació y se entera que murió dos años atrás.

Presa del dolor la joven monja, bebe el elixir de la muerte pero al darse cuenta que el suicidio es pecado mortal y por lo mismo no podrá ver a su hijo en el más allá, arrepentida pide clemencia a la Virgen. En su agonía ve a su hijo de la mano de la virgen  en señal de que ha sido perdonada.

From Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, this tragic story is full of deep religious values. Performed by Dhyana Arom, a young promise of the opera in Mexico and notable singer Maria Luisa Tamez, in the role of Zia Principessa.

Under the artistic direction of the maestro Enrique Patrón De Rueda and the stage direction of Oswaldo Martín del Campo, the Camerata Mazatlan and the Guillermo Sarabia Choir participate in this story where the aristocrat Angelica, after having a child out of wedlock, dishonors her family and is sent to the convent as punishment for her sin. Seven years later, she learns that her son is dead and overwhelmed by pain, decides to take her own life, but something unexpected happens.

An event sponsored by Friends of the Opera and the Arts presided over by Dr. Jorge Fuentevilla Wheatley, FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes), the Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura, Suor Angelica will once again shake the Angela Peralta Theater after its last performance in 2007, which had the famous Chilean singer María Cristina Gallardo Domas cast in the main role. This time, Suor Angelica will be performed by Mexican soprano Dhyana Arom.

After participating in the VIII International Singing Contest in Sinaloa in 2016, the soprano returns to Sinaloa to perform this great work by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini.

To compose this opera Puccini visited his sister Iginia, the mother superior in the Convent of Vicopelago. When finishing his work, Puccini played it completely for the nuns who listened to it on the verge of tears. The composer always insisted that it was the best part of his triptych - also composing Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi - full of symbols related to the Divine Comedy. Suor Angelica would correspond to purgatory.

The story takes place in a convent in Siena, Italy in the middle of the sixteenth century. For seven years, Sister Angelica waits in vain for news of her family and her son. One day the abbess announces that her aunt, Zia Principessa, has come to visit her. During the visit Angelica asks about her son whom she has not seen since he was born and learns that he died two years before.

Damaged by pain, the young nun drinks the elixir of death, but when she realizes that suicide is a mortal sin, she will not be able to see her son in the hereafter, repenting to the Virgin for mercy. In her agony she sees her son from the hand of the virgin in a sign that she has been forgiven.
