The daughter of a dairy farmer, Susan spent 3 decades wrangling cattle on horseback, planting and harvesting crops with her three sons and husband over 1000 acres in Northern Wisconsin. She taught children and adults in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa, then counseled in Oregon and Washington State. Finally in retirement, she is writing and painting, always trying to capture unforgettable moments in word and image.

Education: B.S. from Iowa State University. Art and Counseling Masters in Education, University of Wisconsin.

With the encouragement of the Mazatlan Writers Group, S.K.Carnes wrote My Champion, a coming of age story of a girl who learned to appreciate what she had, illustrating it with 21 original oil paintings. The book won a Gold Moonbeam Award. Her second book, The Way Back, honors a war veteran fighting the battle of PTS forged in the trenches of World War I. This historical fiction e-book has scored a silver medal from Reader’s Favorites.
